PhanT'aime Exhibition at Bastille Design Center

This last week has been a whirlwind finalizing my degree exhibition, but wow! What a journey and experience it has been! I want to thank everyone who helped get me here, from my professors' insightful guidance and to my fabulous network of supporting family and friends, I truly thank all of you as otherwise this exhibition may not have been possible.

So now, without further ado, here are some of the images from the exhibition in its final form as well as some BTS images of the set up process.

The following images display the Phan T ’aime exhibition at the Bastille Design Center from May 10th-13th, 2021. The exhibition features two Mac desktop computers that display the website. They are set to a video screensaver of the website’s landing page in the instances that the computers are inactive. The wallpaper displays forty-five images of the Phan T ’aime selfie submissions utilizing the Phan T ’aime Instagram filter. Suggesting screen presence through its slight shine finish, the wallpaper was printed on A3 matte paper through a laser printing technique. For aesthetic purposes as well as with reference to social media trends’ influence, a neon sign with the project title hangs in front of the Instagram filtered selfies.

Seeing my work in a gallery space was so rewarding after working on PhanT'aime for the whole year, the longest I've ever worked on a project before. The exhibition wasn't without its hiccups however...

The set up of the space took over 8 hours with the help of my partner and Paris College of Art faculty on the Sunday before the exhibition. We worked until closing due to curfew and I still knew that I had to come in early at 8am the next day to ensure I had my finishing touches done before the jury showed up at 9am for the defense.

Only for me to come in this morning at 8am to see the humidity had removed half of the wallpaper an hour before the jury arrived! Despite this disastrous setback, I felt courage from looking up at the wall and seeing my amazingly supportive family and friends looking back at me. I managed to fix the wallpaper and have a successful defense on time!

The pandemic may be keeping us physically apart, but I was so happy and felt so surrounded by love and support today during my defense. Your selfies gave me strength when I felt defeated. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Next up, graduation! xx
