Christmas in Dinan, oh where do I begin? This small town is filled with a charm of welcoming, even to an American like me. I was so worried about being away from my family during the holidays, but Armand's family made sure to make me feel at home.
We stayed at the house of his aunt and uncle, Corrine and Eric. They both are so welcoming and just bring a smile to everyones face as soon as they enter a room. They completely renovated the house themselves and it was beautiful. My favorite was the kitchen area; I loved the red accents and the old oven. Eric was the head chef for us on Christmas eve, and he was a phenomenal cook. Every time we ate I was shocked when another course kept coming, it never stopped! With all the delicious food it put you right into a sleep coma for hours afterwards!
And then Juliette, Armand's cousin, was so kind to me. She took the time to translate or speak english with me when I was lost in conversations at the dinner table. She is such a country girl at heart, as she loves to say. Juliette loves animals, perhaps that's why she has such a gentle and welcoming soul.
Armand is definitely his dad's son. They are so similar and when they are around each other it brings out another side of them. They love to push each others buttons and make lots of jokes at the others expense, of course all in good fun. They both seemed so happy and content to be surrounded by family for the holidays, especially after a home-cooked meal induced sleep coma.
I'm so grateful to have been invited to Corrine and Eric's for Christmas, I truly loved Dinan and all of the people in it. From the fresh walnuts gathered from the tree outside to all the yule log cakes I ate, it might not of been home but it sure felt like it. xx
